Hitting the capital.

One of my all-time favourite places in the country is London. Despite being a complete country girl who lives in the middle of nowhere and feels completely small-town in anywhere remotely resembling a city, I just can't get enough of the capital. I try to go there at least once every year, generally lured in for the shops.. This time I went up with a friend and as well as blasting our way around Oxford Street we also went to the Christian Louboutin 20 year exhibition at the Design Museum, which was a completely beautiful celebration of a shoe genius! I wanted to stroke every pair in there.

Blazer - Bershka; Top, Bag, Earrings & Cross Bracelet - Topshop; Skirt - River Island; Tights - Primark; Shoes - New Look; Cuff & Ring - H&M.

My trusty peach blazer got another outing today, working with one of my favourite cute summer prints - fruit print a la D&G, in the form of my cherry print skirt. I like the way the lace top stops me looking too covered up considering the high neckline, and the cute peter pan collar is just sweet. I had originally planned to wear this outfit without tights, but since the weather was pretty typically british (aka rainy) I had to add them in. I like all of the light, bright tones of this outfit, which make me stand out in the busy London crowds!

Here you have seen me looking like a complete tourist taking my outfit photo on Tower Bridge, and I am sure you will have clocked the shopping bags in my hand.. Well, they deserve their own post, so coming soon is my Oxford Street haul!

Love and kisses, Tara xox

PS. I am going to Paris tomorrow for a few days, so I may not be very vocal on the blog. I will try to post some more (such as my London buys) while I am away but I might get carried away living it up a la Parisienne.. So for now, au revoir et a bientot mes amies.

Confessions of a shopaholic.

For the first time in about two weeks, I have been shopping! It might not sound like very long, but for me it felt like a lifetime.. I think I was actually experiencing withdrawal symptoms - excessive online browsing, compiling wishlists over and over, falling in love with clothes in magazines and even dreaming about shopping. I kid you not. It's official - I am an addict. Call Shopaholics Anonymous and see if they do house calls.

Going shopping today was very successful (meaning my purse is considerably emptier and my wardrobe a little fuller), and of course it required another outfit..

Shawl - River Island; Top - H&M; Jeans & Shoes - New Look; Bag - Tous; Necklace & Ring - Republic; Earrings - Topshop; Bracelet - Accessorize.
I'm not really channelling any particular look today, but if I had to try and describe my style here I would say fashion gypsy. The faux fur trimmed shawl and slightly OTT jewellery feel slightly traveller-ish, while the wedges, slightly boxy bag and lipstick feel distinctly more stylish, making this ensemble a slightly quirky mash-up. And somehow it works. I'm not sure if it is the tonal quality of the pieces, the fact that fashion itself is favouring those 'anything-goes' looks, or just a hefty dose of confidence as I walk around, but whatever the reason, I'm liking it. (Not to sound totally up myself or anything though..)

I said this shopping trip was a success, so here comes the rundown of my latest buys.. take a deep breath - we are heading into fashion-and-beauty-land & won't be coming up for air any time soon.

My spending kicked off with a bit of a beauty haul, beginning with Rimmel's Scandaleyes mascara. I have been seeing adverts for this forever (starring the gorgeous Georgia May Jagger), and have been sorely tempted to try it out, but I was held back by my long-standing devotion to Maybelline mascaras. Then I walked in to Superdrug and saw this little baby on sale - I was already contemplating getting a new mascara, and my mind was instantly made up. Stay tuned to hear just how good Scandaleyes really is..

And here is where I started to spend more than I anticipated... I had been on the lookout for a new lipstick recently, and had heard the Kate collection for Rimmel was good, so of course I went to check it out. The lipstick I had in mind was a bright, almost floral pink, and shade 02 fit the bill perfectly. Then I got carried away trying out the other shades on my hand and literally fell in love with shade 12 - the gorgeous almost orange-y coral colour is so striking that I had to have it! Now my lipstick collection is edging closer to being complete, and I cannot wait to work these colours with a fierce fashion pout.

Unintentional purchase number two strikes.. I was just browsing through New Look when I saw these stunning coral slipper-style flats. My eye was instantly drawn by the gorgeous colour, and I love the cute shape which feels almost vintage style. They also lean towards the pyjama party vibe that the catwalks were giving out recently, so I think these are going to be my NSBFs (New Shoe Best Friends).

I am a huge fan of the 50s references going on on the catwalk - everything about the era epitomises elegant, ladylike style with a heavy dose of fun print thrown in. The D&G SS'12 collection is currently the subject of a lot of my daydreams... Which is why I was most definitely searching for a new piece that channels the mid-century modern style, and this Topshop sun top certainly does that. The playful, graphically floral print is pure fun, while the slightly corseted style and straps put me in mind of 1950s holiday dressing - perfection.

The final stop on my shopping trip was Primark, where I will openly admit that I got a little carried away. I went in for new work shoes and came out with so much more.. Starting with this belt. I love skinny belts because they add an extra detail to outfits, but was unsure if I could pull off snakeskin. And this is the bonus of Primark - yes, it is cheap and can be poor quality, but if you aren't sure about something and just want to test out a trend then this is the place to go. You can just give something a go, and even if it isn't right for you the wallet-friendly prices mean you won't have wasted too much money. Result.

Another piece I want to test out is a silk scarf, so again I went to Primark for an affordable one that I can play around with. Silk scarves are a bit of a must-have accessory this season, being used for everything from headwear (again harking back to the 50s) and belts to shoes and actual dresses, so of course I had to get my hands on one. I love the classic blue tones and bold pattern of this one, and will be trying to work it in as many ways as possible - just to see how versatile it really is.

My final buy was upon total impulse. This impulse again struck in Primark, where I saw this Gaga top out of the corner of my eye and literally could not bring myself to walk away from it. It was such a bargain, and I love Lady Gaga so much (especially the Born This Way single and cover) that I simply had to have it. I even bought it a size or two too big because there were none in my size, but I wanted it that badly! Besides, tops like this often look better oversized.. that way they can be paired simply with jeans or leggings, or tucked into a high waist skirt or shorts casually. This is one buy that was not trend driven, it was simply down to my small obsession with Stefani Germanotta.

That's the end of my little shopping spree, and looking back it was definitely a good one! Like I said, I may now be lacking in money but my wardrobe just got that little bit chic-er. Which equals a successful day in my opinion. Now, it's getting late so I'd better cut this off.. but what do you think about my buys? Love and kisses, Tara xox

I'm up for a challenge.

You're probably expecting to see some kind of 'my look today' post, but unfortunately I'm under the weather today, and am staying home - meaning I look a little bit like death. Being ill does not bring out the best in me. I'm currently curled up on my sofa watching pretty much any DVD I can get my hands on, in my PJs under my duvet, and feeling pretty sorry for myself. But I couldn't let this blog go without an update (and anything to take my mind off feeling bad is very welcome), so I thought I'd just share a little challenge I have set myself.

It might not sound like much, but after continually depleting my bank balance this month, as of Monday (after the H&M purchase) I decided something. No more shopping until after Christmas. Well, no more shopping for myself. Of course there is the Christmas shopping to complete - I have a few more gifts left to get - so I can't promise not to spend money. What I have challenged myself with, however, is to show some restraint and not buy anything for myself until after Christmas, when I will get some more money and be able to properly evaluate what I can afford.

13 days (at least!) without spending money probably sounds like an impossible task, if you know me well. All of my friends (and probably all of you readers too by now) know that shopping is a bit of an addiction for me, and that every time I go out to town I end up buying something, be it a ring, a dress or some metallic gold jeans. Recently these purchases have been more and more impulsive, and I am even a little concerned about the state of my bank account... So even though I will undoubtedly be heading into town to brave the cold, the only people benefiting from my hard-earned cash will be others - apart from the warm, fuzzy feeling I get when giving the presents of course.

I am not even going to let myself buy things that I might be able to justify needing. If I run out of makeup, or cleanser or anything like that, it will have to wait. More than anything, I just want to see how well I cope. How strong I can be with the temptation all around... There are so many gorgeous things I could easily go out and buy, and yes I could most likely afford to, but I am setting this challenge and I will stick to it. It is the third day, and I am pulling myself through by compiling a mental wishlist of all the things I would like to add to my wardrobe - and then after Christmas I can pick some to treat myself to! Watch this space, because I may have to post the wishlist to keep going with this shopping boycott... For now, I am going back under the duvet and hoping to feel better... Love and kisses, Tara xox

just to get the ball rolling... my latest buys :)

Just to kick the blog off, these are my latest buys from the last week or so! I'll apologise now for poor picture quality.. I'll improve over time! Just wanted to get them out there, so they were kinda rushed..

I just had to have this gorgeous felt hat, it was a total steal from New Look! The 70s trend is still going strong, so as A/W '11 fashion hits the shops I had to snap it up, ready to add a twist to my day to day outfits.

When Republic opened a store in Yeovil, and were offering 20% of everything, what more could I do? This top from Crafted was reduced down to £5, and the ripped, cut out detail and faded American flag print drew me in. Perfect for off-duty days, it'll look good with simple styling.

Another New Look find. Prints are big for A/W '11, as having fun with fashion is very a la mode. This basic vest will look good either clashed with another print for a fashion-forward finish, or simply styled for a more basic, yet stylish look.

I love sales. Got this Warehouse vest for £10 on the Selfridges sale! I love the swingy layer with embellishment.. more fun with fashion!

I'd had my eye on this Topshop lace crop for weeks, but the niggling thought of not really needing more tops stopped me.. Until I saw that peter pan collars AND lace were here to stay for A/W '11 - it's the perfect mix. And being a little cold in autumn won't stop me wearing it to death..

I've been waiting for these shorts for weeks! As you might be able to tell, I love the whole Americana thing that hit fashion recently, as well as playing around with prints etc.. When these arrived I actually spent the next 45 minutes trying things on with them, so that I now have around 20 different things to wear them with. And I'm going to.

So, these are my latest purchases.. hope you are getting a taste for my style, and if seeing them laid out hasn't really inspired you, get ready to see me style them up over the next few weeks! Love and kisses, Tara xox
